Lack of EV charger installations shameful
Massachusetts hasn’t managed to deploy ANY chargers through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program in four years even though the funding is available. Jordan Wolman’s summary (Massachusetts’s slow adoption of EV chargers through federal program is ‘mystifying’ to transit advocates, June 4) is helpful, but the lack of information from the state is astounding. If Massachusetts is serious about meeting climate goals, we don’t have time for this painfully slow rollout.

Drivers like me, who were motivated to buy an EV to reduce carbon emissions and help the state meet its climate goals, aren’t getting much support from the Commonwealth. We don’t even know when this situation will be remedied, although there’s some hope in Wolman’s reporting that installations may begin soon in Greenfield and a few locations in the eastern part of the state.

It’s downright shameful that Massachusetts hasn’t figured out how to build the public infrastructure to support EV drivers. MassDOT must accelerate this rollout and provide Massachusetts drivers with a clear timeline. Drivers deserve better, and so does the planet.
